7th Kyu Testing Requirements

Important Points
- From this point on, sparring, five step sparring, and bag work may be a part of any belt test.
- A written examination covering Japanese terminology, Shotokan history, and Shotokan
techniques will be given several weeks before the physical belt test. Testing students must pass the written test with at least
80 percent of the questions correct to be eligible to take the physical skills test.
- During the physical skills test, be prepared to answer oral questions relating to Japanese
terminology and Shotokan history.
- Students are expected to know all 10th, 9th, and 8th kyu testing requirements as well as the following 7th kyu requirements.
Basics
- Double punches
- All blocks with a reverse punch
- Any block followed by a strike
Combinations
- Outside block to elbow strike
- Knife hand block to front snap kick
Fighting Stances
- Jab step up front snap kick
- Jab step up roundhouse kick
- Lunge punch
- Lunge punch to jab
Kata
Self-Defense
- Responsible for all escapes from grabs taught during class including 2 -3 counterattacks after each escape.
